There are at least four ways to prevent apps from starting up automatically on Windows 11, and I’ll go over each of them in this post. When you turn on your computer and log in to your account, certain programs may launch automatically. Faster program access could be useful, but it can also affect performance, slow down startup, and waste system resources (memory and CPU) and energy because it runs in the background.
Generally speaking, it’s never a good idea to have more than the bare minimum of programs open. Windows 11 offers various ways to disable programs at startup through the Settings app, Task Manager, Startup folder, and Registry if you notice that your computer is taking longer to start, that the system becomes sluggish quickly, or that certain apps keep popping up (I’m looking at you, Spotify) while you’re logging into your account.
In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to prevent Windows 11 apps from starting up automatically.

Modifying in-app settings
You might need to disable the option from the application settings rather than the Windows settings if none of these work. For more precise information, you might need to consult the developer’s documentation, as every program is unique.
Apart from beginning applications, Windows 11 also has a function that allows apps to restart automatically to resume where you left off and swiftly take up where you left off. Use these steps to turn off the feature if you don’t want apps to restart themselves.
